Crises and repression lead to an increased need for the EU to provide international protection to asylum seekers, displaced persons and other people fleeing their country of origin. This leads to challenges of migration and border management, integration and the combating of illegal migration. It also leads to new opportunities with new people bringing new skills and competences responding to demographic trends in Europe and improving international relations.
